Welcome back to Carolina Blogging! If its been a while since you’ve visited our website, I first want to thank you for checking us out on the web. We’ve made a few changes to the blog that I am over the moon thrilled to be able to share with you today so lets get started…
I (Sarah) have always had a bit of a graphic design interest when it comes to making things look pretty on the web. Whether it was helping to design images to share on Facebook for other bloggers or going full scale with a website logo, graphic design provides a creative outlet to meet new people and work with new tools.
I hit a roadblock when we decided to re-brand Carolina Blogging earlier this year because I knew in my heart the potential behind the amazing content we already had. I felt the logo needed re-branding to take the blog to the next level in matching the quality of the content and services you’ve come to know us by. A blog logo is our identity with it being found on business cards and merchandise, so it was time to look outside of my capabilities and ask for help.
I put a call out on social media and found Jill Schroeder of Tomahawk Design Co. to help us out. I’d like to explain the process a bit further before I share our new logo in case you are looking to re-brand your website too. I highly recommend Tomahawk Design Co. as Jill does truly amazing work and her turn around time for a complete design is something to brag about.
Here are the items I considered before the re-design process.
– How quickly would I like to re-brand?
– How can I best curate the existing content to match our future content plans?
– Were there specific design aspects that I wanted to incorporate in to the new look and feel of the website?
– Is re-branding affordable?
In addition to the above points to consider, I also needed to address the existing business needs for use with a new website logo.
- social media images
- professional watermark
- vector scaling for use on merchandise
Working with Tomahawk Design Co.
To start with, Jill is incredibly easy to get in touch with and is very responsive via email. Her quick responses confirmed I could get a re-design completed much quicker than I had originally accounted for. This alone took half the burden off the plate as this was not going to be a lengthy process.
After first reaching out to her about the potential re-design, Jill had a few suggestions while looking at our current design. She took in to account what our existing logo style looked like, our website slogan, the images we were using for our categories and a few other things. The suggestions Jill made actually created another opportunity for us to restructure our existing content categories to better meet the needs of our readers and make it easier to find content on the site.
I was 100% open to any and all design suggestions to see if we could reach the vision I had in my mind of what I wanted the overall feel of the website to be.
I’m not sure if my request made me an easy or difficult client to work with because I only said, ” something to reflect food and travel with a coastal feel“.
Jill had three complete designs ready for us to review within a short period of time at a very affordable rate. All three designs blew us away with each having a unique coastal vibe and color palette. Two of the three designs immediately stood out making the final decision much harder as I loved them both!
The thing about working with Jill is that she is flexible and has a genuine desire to make her clients happy. I asked if she could take the slogan between our two top designs and blend them and she got it done. I asked for one additional color on our palette and she also got that done.
The final revision was an easy choice to go with. Our new logo is perfect!
Our new Carolina Blogging Logo!
I love every bit of it! From the little arrow in the sailboat sail to the slogan, “Discovering the Sweet Southern Life”. That slogan is especially fitting as we’ve recently become full service travel agents and have enjoyed helping clients plan their dream vacations to places like Universal Studios and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
And… our new website icon!
It all fits perfectly with our existing content and the future travel content we look forward to sharing with you!
